Journaling (Helpful Tips)

1. Write The Dream Down – As soon as you are awake after the dream record the dream on paper. Each waking minute the details of the dream can slip away from your mind. It helps to rehearse the dream over and over when you are awake but even so details can still slip away and be lost forever.

2. Analysis Can Wait – Just write the dream down and make no effort to do any analysis of it or correct it. Be honest in the facts of the dream no matter how ugly they may first appear to you. All you want to accomplish is the recording of the facts of the dream initially.

3. What is the overall tone of the dream? – Try to give it a description in as few words as possible. It is helpful to note the impressions, places, actions, emotions, symbols and characters that were in the dream encounter.

4. Log the date and time of the dream – This very helpful in going back reviewing the dream later. Sometimes you will have no understanding of the dream until after the dream encounter plays out in your life or understanding is giving by Holy Spirit. Make note about what of what is going on in your life during the time you were having the dream. i.e. relationship problems, pressing God for answers, grieving, happy, etc…

5. Give a title to you dream – This can be helpful later as you try to recall the particular dream. i.e. A Day in the Bank.

6. Don't be overly anxious about things being logical, or ethically perfect - They are symbols that mean something to you, and the task is to discover their meanings for you, however they are only symbols and not actual actions taking by you. Your own death or someone, being a thief, being afraid in the dream, committing sexual acts are just a few examples which are symbols or pictures for events going on within you. Don't concern yourself over their literal significances at this time just record the major events of the dream! Avoid writing every little detail of the dream. They seldom play any major part in understanding the overall meaning of the dream and may actually cloud your understanding.

7. Dreams are almost always directed to us – Some studies indicate 95% of dreams are about the dreamer and not of someone else. See the scriptural reference in the FAQ page to get a biblical perspective of dreams.

8. Journal, journal and continue to journal your dreams!!!
